El Paso, TX, March 19, 2014 – Hunt Companies has been selected by Texas A&M University at Galveston as designer, developer and builder of a new 612-bed, on-campus cadet residence hall. Construction of the $45 million projected is slated for completion in the fall of 2015.
The proposed design will feature a unified 612-bed facility with two residential wings connected to a central commons adjacent, illuminated formation court, and associated amenities. Hunt will provide development and construction management services for design, finance, and site and vertical construction. The facility’s commons is being designed to possibly provide a number of non-residential essentials, which may include classrooms, office space, conference rooms, lounges and/or miscellaneous support-related retail.
“As a part of our overall business management strategy, The Texas A&M University System continues to seek innovative ways to gain access to private sector capital as well as expertise in delivering such construction projects in the most timely, efficient and cost-effective manner possible,” said Phillip Ray, Chief Business Development Officer of The Texas A&M University System. “We are confident that this new partnership with Hunt Companies will enable us to achieve these essential goals on behalf of our Sea Aggies.”
The development, being executed by Hunt’s Public Private Partnership division, is the first partnership between Hunt and the University System, and will include a reconfigured design to provide cadets direct access to leadership and centralized gathering locations. Construction of the new structures is scheduled to begin during the 2nd Quarter of 2014.
“Hunt is honored and excited to have the opportunity to work with Texas A&M University at Galveston on this important project," said Sinclair Cooper, Co-President of Hunt’s Public-Private Partnership division. "This partnership will create a more comfortable and accommodating living environment for current and future cadets, and allow for greater flexibility and housing options for the growing student population. We look forward to beginning what we hope to be a long and lasting relationship with the Texas A&M University System.”
