Community's Ideas For New Design of Mayor Wright Homes Recapped Tonight

Honolulu, Hawa`i, Aug. 12, 2016 — Beginning Aug. 8 and continuing this entire week, residents and the public have been participating in a design charrette on-site at Mayor Wright Homes to share their vision for the redevelopment with the Hawaii Public Housing Authority (HPHA) and the Master Developer Team, led by Hunt Companies.

The ideas presented by the residents and the broader community over this week will be recapped at Mayor Wright Homes tonight from 6 p.m. to approximately 8 p.m.

The on-site Mayor Wright Homes’ design charrette week will include 18 hours of stakeholder interviews and 40 hours of a design-team workshop open to residents and interested members of the public. The ideas shared by the residents and community this week will inform the design of the redevelopment.

The development team is led by Hunt, but also includes McCormack Baron Salazar and Vitus Group. Collectively, the Master Developer Team has designed, planned, funded, developed, constructed and managed 91 similar projects throughout the United States.

In March 2016, HPHA executed a predevelopment agreement with the Master Developer Team for the redevelopment of Mayor Wright Homes into a mixed-use, mixed-income, transit-oriented community.

The predevelopment agreement enables the HPHA to work with the development team and community stakeholders to develop a Master Plan for the Mayor Wright Homes site, including but not limited to obtaining requisite governmental approvals and environmental assessments and reviews.

“This week’s design charrette is critical to ensuring that the new redevelopment of Mayor Wright Homes will be a community that not only meets the needs of current residents, the most important stakeholders to the entire redevelopment, but will also create additional affordable/workforce housing for urban Honolulu.” stated Steve Colón, President of Hunt’s Hawaii division.
