Hunt Breaks Ground on Retail Center - Kilauea Lighthouse Village

Kilauea, Kaua`i, Hawa`i, Sept. 27, 2016 — Hunt Companies, Inc.’s Hawaii development division celebrated the groundbreaking of the Kilauea Lighthouse Village, a 47,000-square-foot neighborhood center in historic Kilauea Town on Kaua`i.

“Kilauea Lighthouse Village will provide much-needed retail shopping conveniences for the residents and visitors to Kauai’s North Shore,” stated Steve Colón, President of Hunt’s Hawai`i development division. “The groundbreaking is an important milestone in that journey.”

Kilauea Lighthouse Village will be anchored by The Market at Kilauea, a 10,000-square-foot neighborhood grocery store by the Sullivan Family of Companies, operators of Foodland, Food Pantry and the Kalama Beach Corporation. The Market at Kilauea will be a convenient, full-service supermarket that celebrates the warmth and sense of community present in neighborhood grocery stores of old, and will provide customers a wide selection of fresh, island grown, specialty, gourmet and traditional favorites.

The popular Kaua`i Mexican restaurant Verde and Wyland Galleries – offering original paintings, prints, sculptures and other artwork by world-renowned marine life artist Wyland – will also be located in Kilauea Lighthouse Village. Future tenants will also include local and statewide businesses including other restaurants, small shops, services and offices; announcements of other tenants will be made in the near future.

Shioi Construction, Inc. will serve as the general contractor, and Ka`iwa Construction, Inc. will serve as the site contractor; both are Kaua`i-based companies. Construction should be completed in late 2017.

Construction vehicles will not affect normal traffic flow on Kilauea Road. All vehicles traveling to and from the Kilauea Lighthouse Village site will use a temporary construction road that runs behind the Kilauea Post Office and leads directly to Kuhio Highway to minimize traffic during construction.

Kilauea Lighthouse Village is situated on a six-acre parcel fronting the Kilauea Post Office.

The design of the Village’s buildings evokes the ambiance of an old Hawai`i plantation town to complement the area’s historic structures.

New traffic measures will improve vehicular flow and pedestrian safety. Kilauea Lighthouse Village will add sidewalks, crosswalks and bike lanes where none currently exist.

The site is commercially zoned and located in an area that both Kaua`i County and the Kilauea Neighborhood Association have earmarked for growth of the Kilauea commercial core.

Kilauea Lighthouse Village will bring an estimated 100 construction jobs and 100 permanent jobs to Kilauea Town.
